D-backs slowed down in Denver
One day after surrendering 19 runs, Arizona led for much of the game Thursday before falling by a count of 5-1. The Diamondbacks dropped two of three in the series. Paul Goldschmidt was 2-for-4 in the defeat, while A.J. Pollock went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Steven Souza Jr. finished 2-for-4 with a double. Chris Owings went 1-for-3 with a walk. Robbie Ray allowed two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Braves split with Jays
Atlanta won game two of a quick two-game home series versus Toronto, winning 9-5 on Wednesday. Ender Inciarte was 1-for-2 with a double, a run and an RBI before leaving the game with an injury. Ozzie Albies went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs to spark the offense. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Tyler Flowers finished 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Johan Camargo was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Dansby Swanson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Mike Foltynewicz earned the win as he gave up five earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks over 6 2/3 innings.
Zack Godley (10-6, 4.80 ERA) gets the starting nod today for Arizona, while Atlanta will go with Anibal Sanchez (4-2, 2.72).
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 12-4 in their last 16 road games. Arizona is 4-9 in its last 13 games overall.
Atlanta
The Braves are 20-8 in their last 28 home games versus the Diamondbacks. Atlanta is 2-6 in its last eight games overall.
Prediction:
Sanchez has provided a steady arm in the Braves rotation, while Godley has been inconsistent while thriving off good run support in a lot of his starts. Both teams could use a series win as they are in tough divisional battles. In the opener I like Atlanta as it had a day off and remained at home, plus Sanchez is the more trustworthy pitcher.
