Diamondbacks blow lead versus Braves
Arizona lost three of its four home games to Atlanta over the weekend, falling 9-5 in Sunday’s finale. The Diamondbacks entered the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead, but proceeded to give up six runs to fall well behind. Brad Boxberger blew the save and took the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on three hits over one-third of an inning. Jon Jay helped pace the offense as he went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Paul Goldschmidt was 1-for-3 with a triple, two walks and a run. Daniel Descalso was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run. Nick Ahmed finished 1-for-2 with two walks, a run and an RBI.
Rockies drop finale to Dodgeres
Colorado lost 9-6 at home to Los Angeles on Sunday as its lead in the NL West dropped to half a game. Charlie Blackmon had a monster game in the defeat as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and three runs scored. D.J. LeMahieu was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Nolan Arenado finished 1-for-3 with a 2-run home run and a walk. Tyler Anderson suffered the loss as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 2 2/3 innings.
Zack Godley (14-8, 4.51 ERA) will take the mound today for the D-backs, while the Rockies are countering with German Marquez (11-9, 4.05).
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 2-7 in their last nine games overall. The under is 8-0 in the last eight Arizona road games.
Colorado
The Rockies are 7-2 in their last nine games following a loss. Colorado is 6-2 in its last eight games overall.
Prediction:
Marquez has been filthy as of late, racking up big strikeout numbers and navigating through the difficulties of pitching at Coors Field. Godley has shown plus stuff all season, but walks have been an issue and he’s prone to big innings against him. I like Colorado in this one as Marquez should limit the D-backs offense and get plenty of run support.
