Peralta homers in big first inning
David Peralta hit a 3-run home run as part of a five-run inning Thursday night to guide the D-backs to a 5-1 win at San Diego. He finished 1-for-3 with the home run, three RBIs and two walks. A.J. Pollock and Eduardo Escobar went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run. Alex Avila was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Clay Buchholz threw a complete game to pick up the win as he allowed one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Nix hammered in defeat
After throwing six shutout innings in his MLB debut, Jacob Nix was hit hard yesterday and failed to make it out of the first inning. He surrendered five earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Hunter Renfroe was 1-for-2 with a solo home run off the bench to pace the offense. Travis Jankowski and Eric Hosmer each finished 1-for-4 with a double.
Robbie Ray (3-2, 4.83 ERA) will be on the mound tonight for Arizona, while San Diego turns to Joey Lucchesi (6-6, 3.45).
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 Diamondbacks games overall. Arizona is 9-3 in its last 12 Friday games.
San Diego
The Padres are 5-21 in their last 26 home games. San Diego is 14-38 in its last 52 games overall.
Prediction:
San Diego hasn’t been able to do much of anything right lately and even one of its bright spot in Nix struggled mightily in his second MLB start. With that said, the Padres fare better against lefties and Ray has struggled this season against right-handed hitters. San Diego has plenty of them with power. Lucchesi has pitched well as a rookie and the D-backs offense went silent after the first inning last night. I’m taking a shot at San Diego winning as the home underdog here.
