Teheran, Braves try to hold off Dodgers
Having seen their top young arm make strides about 18 hours ago, the Dodgers hand the ball to a proven commodity in time to open a three-game set with the Braves.
The two clubs clash at 10:10 p.m. ET out West, with Kenta Maeda and Julio Teheran assuming the pitching honors. Handicappers at online sports book Bovada.lv list the hosts as 1.5-run favorites. Atlanta, conversely, enters as a +165 underdog. The over/under run figure holds steady at seven.
Los Angeles phenom Julio Urias absorbed yesterday’s 7-2 defeat to the Cubs. The 19-year-old fireballer’s second MLB appearances went a lot better than last week’s debut, though, as he completed five innings and scattered eight hits. Tonight’s hurler represents an even safer bet for Dave Roberts. Maeda (4-3, 3.00 ERA) ended a five-start winless streak in his most recent assignment, twirling five scoreless frames at Citi Field. The Japanese import had a nearly flawless April, however, amassing a 3-1 record with a 1.41 ERA.
Meanwhile, Teheran’s 1-5 mark belies how great he’s been for two full months. The righty ace’s 1.38 ERA in May was tied for the majors’ third-best mark behind Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner. Remarkably, Teheran’s yet to receive more than three runs of support in a single outing.

Don’t expect the poor luck to expire this evening. Atlanta (16-37) has endured two shutouts in the past three contests, fanning on 11 occasions against Bumgarner in its series finale with the Giants. The Dodgers (28-27) want to shake off an ugly showing vs. Chicago, too, so look for the NL West stalwarts to exhibit no mercy.
