Braves settle score with Urena
Atlanta starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was ejected in the second inning Friday night for throwing behind Miami starting pitcher Jose Urena, a continuation of a feud that started last August when Urena beaned Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. After the game resumed, Atlanta rolled to a 7-2 victory. Touki Toussaint took over on the mound and picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over four innings. Josh Donaldson helped lead the offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Freddie Freeman was 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Brian McCann ended the night 1-for-3 with a 3-run home run. Mike Soroka will start tonight’s game as he comes in with a 2-1 record, 1.62 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP along with 21 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings.
Marlins fall in opener
Miami lost by a 7-2 score at home Friday night against Miami to drop to 9-22 overall and 6-13 at home. Urena suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Martin Prado helped lead the Marins offensively as he went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Jorge Alfaro was 2-for-3 plus a walk. Rosell Herrera finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Trevor Richards draws the start today for Miami as he enters with an 0-4 record, 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP plus 31 strikeouts over 33 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-0 in the last four road starts by Soroka. Atlanta is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings.
Miami
The Marlins are 0-4 in the last four home starts by Richards. Miami is 4-1 in its last five Saturday games.
Prediction:
Richards hasn’t pitched as badly as his numbers indicate, but this is still an uphill battle against a much better Atlanta team with a talented young starter of its own on the mound. The Braves are looking to turn a corner after an inconsistent start to the season and what better team to do that against than the lowly Marlins? While tonight’s contest might be closer than yesterday, I still like Atlanta to win a second straight.
