Freeman heats up in win
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has been cold in recent weeks, but found his bat Saturday to help the Braves to a 5-1 victory. Freeman went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs and an RBI to pace the offense. Ozzie Albies finished 2-for-5 with two runs. Nick Markakis ended the game 1-for-3 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Anibal Sanchez was stellar on the mound as he allowed one earned run on two hits with eight strikeouts and a walk over 6 2/3 innings.
Brewers unable to find offense
Milwaukee trimmed its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh Saturday, but it would be the only run it would score and Atlanta tacked on three insurance runs the next inning. Brad Miller was 1-for-3 and drove in the lone run. Hernan Perez walked and scored the only run. Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and Jonathan Villar all recorded a single. Aaron Wilkerson took the loss as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings of work.
Sean Newcomb (8-3, 3.10 ERA) will draw the start for the Braves, while Milwaukee turns to Junior Guerra (5-5, 2.87).
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 7-1 in their last eight Sunday games. The over is 14-5 in the last 19 Atlanta road games.
Milwaukee
The under is 13-6-2 in the last 21 meetings. The over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 Brewers games overall.
Prediction:
Atlanta looked good in all aspects yesterday and it was particularly encouraging to see Freeman get rolling again. With Newcomb on the mound today, you have to like the Braves’ chances. He hasn’t been as good the last month as he was earlier in the season, but he’s capable of a gem every time he takes the mound. Guerra is also having a really good season, but in looking deeper at his statistics it might be unsustainable. I think Atlanta gets to him here in a win by the underdogs.
