Braves rally in ninth
Atlanta scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday night to post a 3-1 victory at St. Louis and take a 2-1 lead in the NLDS. Dansby Swanson helped lead the Braves offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Adam Duvall was 1-for-2 off the bench with two RBIs. Ozzie Albies was 2-for-4. Sean Newcomb retired the only batter he faced to pick up the win in relief. Mark Melancon gave up one hit with one strikeout and no walks in a scoreless inning of work to get the save. The Braves have not yet announced their Game 4 starting pitcher.
Martinez blows save
St. Louis gave up three runs in the ninth inning as it lost 3-1 at home against Atlanta in Game 3 of the NLDS. Carlos Martinez suffered the loss in relief as he allowed three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks over one inning. Marcell Ozuna helped lead the Cardinals offense as he went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Matt Carpenter was 0-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. Paul Goldschmidt ended the game 1-for-4 with a double. Dakota Hudson will start tonight for St. Louis as he comes in with a 16-7 record, 3.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP plus 136 strikeouts over 174 2/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 17-8 in their last 25 Monday games. Atlanta is 2-5 in its last seven road games.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 37-17 in their last 54 Monday games. St. Louis is 9-5 in its last 14 playoff home games.
Prediction:
It took one big inning for Atlanta yesterday, but St. Louis is usually strong at home and Hudson pitches with a lot of confidence. With the Braves unsure about their pitching situation and a shaky bullpen, I like the Cardinals here to even the series at 2-2.
