Braves bounce back
After dropping the series opener on Friday night, 4-3, the Braves bounced back against Washington on Saturday with a 13-9 victory on the road. Atlanta is 45-32 on the season, 21-15 on the road and 44-30 with the over. Mike Soroka is getting the start for Atlanta this afternoon. He is 8-1 on the season with a 2.12 ERA.
Atlanta fell behind early to the Nationals, trailing 3-0 after one, but the Braves put up four runs in the seventh and eighth innings each to grab the win. The top of the lineup did most of the damage as Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman each had two hits and combined for nine RBI and four runs scored. Mike Foltynewicz was bailed out from a bad start, as he gave up eight runs in four innings, but didn’t take a decision. The Atlanta pen pitched five innings and allowed just one run. A.J. Minter gave up a run, but still got the win in relief.
Nats end win streak
Washington saw its five-game win streak come to an end on Saturday night in the high-scoring loss to the Braves. The Nationals are 37-39 on the season, 21-18 at home and 39-32 with the over. Washington has Patrick Corbin making the start today. He is 6-5 on the year with a 3.90 ERA.
Anibal Sanchez pitched six innings and allowed four runs on Saturday and was in position for a win, but the Nats bullpen blew up. Four different relievers took the mound and all gave up runs. Joe Ross took the loss by allowing four runs over one inning of work. At the plate, Juan Soto had three hits and drove in four runs to lead Washington while Matt Adams had two hits and two RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 10-2 in their last 12 against a losing team and they have won six straight against a left-handed starter.
Washington
The Nationals have won four of Corbin’s last five home starts and they are 4-1 in their last five Game 3’s of a series.
Prediction:
Soroka has been one of Atlanta’s most reliable arms this year and he hasn’t taken a loss since April. Still, he is coming off three shaky outings over his last four starts, allowing a combined 12 runs over 17.2 innings in those three outings. Corbin hasn’t been on a real hot streak either, allowing 16 runs over 12.2 innings in three starts prior to a solid showing against Philly earlier in the week. Soroka’s bad outings are much less severe and Atlanta has shown it can beat up on the Washington pen. I think the Braves get the job done now that Washington has lost its momentum from the win streak.
MLB Prediction: Atlanta Braves -105
