Boston hot at home
The Red Sox picked up a 7-3 win over the Orioles at home on Friday to move to 6-1 at Fenway Park this season and 11-2 overall. Boston continues to have a strong balance of hitting and pitching, now averaging 5.85 runs per game while allowing 3.31 per contest.
Hector Rodriguez is getting the start this afternoon for Boston. He has appeared in three games this season, starting one of them. Over 8.2 innings of work he has allowed three earned runs with two walks and six strikeouts. He has just a 1.15 WHIP thus far.
Cobb makes his 2018 debut for Orioles
Alex Cobb is making his first start of 2018 and his first start for the Orioles today. Cobb started 29 games for the Rays last season and was 12-10 with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He amassed 128 strikeouts with 44 walks.
The Orioles are hoping Cobb can give them a boost as they have lost three of their last four games to fall to 5-9 overall and 3-5 on the road. Pitching has been the biggest problem for Baltimore thus far as they are giving up 5.21 runs per game. On Friday, starter Chris Tillman lasted just two innings in his start.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
Baltimore has lost seven straight Saturday games and 19 of their last 26 games following a loss. The Orioles are also 8-18 in their last 26 games against AL East opponents.
Boston
Boston has won six straight Saturday games and 19 of their last 26 games against AL East opponents. The Sox have won 40 of their last 57 games against a right-handed starter as well.
Prediction:
While Cobb had a respectable stat line for the Rays last season, I don’t feel great about his first start today coming off an injury and with a new team. This isn’t an easy draw either, pitching at Boston against a hot Red Sox team. The Sox are getting good hitting even if their pitching isn’t up to par. I like Boston to keep winning today.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -160
