The pitching matchup for today has Carlos Rodon (1-4, 6.29 ERA) pitching for Chicago to face Josh Tomlin (7-9, 5.59) of the Indians. Rodon has started five games this season and allowed 17 earned runs over 24.1 innings. He has 31 strikeouts with 18 walks and a 1.77 WHIP. Tomlin has been pretty steady lately, allowing seven runs over his last 20.1 innings. Tomlin has 81 strikeouts with 12 walks this year and a 1.34 WHIP.
Cleveland picked up a 9-3 win over Chicago on Friday and then followed it up with a 5-4 win on Saturday. The Indians are now 57-45 overall and 29-21 on the road while the White Sox are 39-62 overall and 19-27 at home.
The Indians nearly blew a 4-0 lead, but Brandon Guyer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth to give Cleveland the win. Corey Kluber had 12 strikeouts over 6.1 innings while allowing four runs. Francisco Lindor and Austin Jackson each had two hits in the win for the Indians as well. Chicago was led by Jose Abreu, who had a 3-run home run, his 19th of the season.
The Indians are rolling along and getting a little bit of luck to fall their way as well. Today they put a struggling pitcher on the mound, but face one that is struggling even more. Cleveland hitters should be able to handle Rodon and do enough damage to make up for any struggles Tomlin may have before the bullpen takes over.
