The pitching matchup today has Anibal Sanchez (3-3, 6.95 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers to face Jason Vargas (14-9, 3.87) of the Royals. Vargas has struggled in recent starts, allowing at least three runs in his last six outings. He has 112 strikeouts this season with 45 walks and a 1.31 WHIP. Sanchez hasn’t started since Aug. 16. He has allowed 17 runs over his last three starts, a total of 11.1 innings. Sanchez has 68 strikeouts with 21 walks and a 1.60 WHIP.

The Royals won the series opener on Monday with a 7-6 victory. Kansas City has won six straight meetings with the Tigers. Detroit is now 58-79 overall and 31-37 at home while the Royals are 68-68 overall and 32-36 on the road.

Monday’s game saw the Royals take a 5-0 lead and nearly let the game slip away, as the Tigers posted three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jake Junis still got the win, as he allowed three runs over five innings to improve to 7-2 on the season. Eric Hosmer led the team with two hits, including his 23rd home run, and three RBI. Melky Cabrera added a pair of RBI as well. Detroit was led by Nicholas Castellanos, who hit his 20th home run and drove in a total of four runs.

Bet on Royals vs. Tigers

The Tigers don’t have any appeal right now as their lineup is made up of mostly AAA players and their pitching staff has been gutted. Sanchez struggled in his last starting efforts and wasn’t doing well after being sent to the minors. Detroit just doesn’t have any other options due to trades and injuries. Kansas City can’t count on Vargas right now, but if he can’t get past this lineup, then he can’t get past anyone.
