The pitching matchup today has Cole Hamels (2-0, 4.38 ERA) on the mound for the Rangers to face Derek Holland (5-7, 4.26) of the White Sox. Hamels made his return after two months off last week and he allowed seven runs over 4.1 innings to the Indians. On the year he has 16 strikeouts and 16 walks over 37 innings. Holland is coming off a six-inning, one-run effort against Oakland. He has 70 strikeouts and 34 walks over 82.1 innings and a 1.48 WHIP.
The White Sox opened the series on Friday night with an 8-7 win over the Rangers. Chicago is now 35-44 overall and 18-17 at home. Texas is now 39-41 overall and 17-24 on the road.
Chicago rallied late in the game to pick up an 8-7 win, scoring three runs in the ninth. Melky Cabrera had a two-run double to close out the game. Matt Bush gave up the three runs in the ninth to blow his fifth save of the season. Todd Frazier had two home runs in the win for the Sox, giving him 15 for the season. Jose Abreu also added his 14th home run. Joey Gallo hit his 21st home run to lead the Rangers while Rougned Odor also homered.
The White Sox rallied late to win, but I don’t think the rally will be necessary today. Hamels looked very shaky in his first start back and I don’t think he will correct all those issues today. Holland has been pretty good for the most part. A few really poor outings have hurt his ERA. I think Holland looks good at home and leads Chicago to a win.
