Paul DeJong went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning Tuesday to lead the Cardinals to a 6-4 win over the Cubs. After five scoreless innings of relief from Javier Assad, DeJong finally got to him leading off the ninth, hitting his third homer of the year. The Cardinals then added one more run afterwards. DeJong is batting .350/.409/.650 in 44 plate appearances, and the Cardinals are going to have to keep running him out there until he slows down. That means less playing time for Tommy Edman and Alec Burleson.

Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 400th career save Wednesday against the Braves. The Red Sox took some pressure off by building their lead from one run to three in the top of the ninth. Jansen went on to give up a one-out double, but he was sharp once again, topping out at 98.7 mph tonight. In winning the race with Craig Kimbrel (who has 397), he became the seventh reliever in major league history with 400 saves. It’s possible he’ll overtake Billy Wagner (422) and John Franco (424) later this season. Based on how the 35-year-old has looked recently, it seems like 500 career saves is well within reach.
