St. Louis Cardinals DFS SPIN
Pinch-hitter Nolan Gorman delivered an RBI double in the ninth as the Cardinals came back to beat the Red Sox 4-3 on Saturday. Gorman was hitting for Juan Yepez, who struck out all three times up against Chris Sale. That’s something Gorman surely could have done himself. Gorman is batting .268/.357/.563 with nine homers and 27 RBI this season, but the Cardinals still haven’t given him a single start against a left-handed pitcher.
Boston Red Sox DFS SPIN
Kenley Jansen was charged with three runs — two earned — in the ninth to take a blown save and a loss for a second straight day Saturday against the Cardinals. It was a surprise to see Jansen back out there after his nightmare outing Friday. This one was a much weirder outing. He opened with a walk to Paul Goldschmidt and then had two pitch-clock violations to a stalling Willson Contreras for another walk. After a popout, Nolan Gorman hit a hard double. Jansen still seemed set to escape from there, but the Red Sox botched a double play ball, with an error allowing Gorman to score the go-ahead run. The scary thing about Jansen’s performance today was that his velocity was down some, but there’s a good chance that was just a consequence of a long outing last night. The rest of the poor results aren’t really of any concern. We’ll just have to wait and see if his velocity comes back next time out. It won’t be tomorrow; Chris Martin will likely close then, if needed.
