Dylan Carlson went 3-for-4 with a leadoff homer on Thursday evening, lifting the Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Cubs in the finale of a four-game series at Busch Stadium. Carlson connected on a 94 mph sinker from righty Adbert Alzolay, launching a tape-measure 420-foot shot to right field to lead off the ballgame. He also blasted a pair of doubles to cap off an impressive three-hit effort. The 22-year-old outfielder has gone deep twice in seven games since the All-Star break. He’s hitting .259/.341/.412 with 49 runs scored, nine homers and 38 RBI across 402 plate appearances. Amazingly, he hasn’t stolen a base this season after tallying 20 thefts across 126 games in the upper minors during the 2019 campaign.

Nick Castellanos (wrist) could be sidelined for a couple of weeks. Castellanos hasn’t started a game for the Reds since last Friday due to lingering right wrist discomfort, and a CT scan taken Wednesday showed a microfracture. He’ll presumably be placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Cardinals. This is a tough blow for the 29-year-old outfielder, who just made his first career All-Star Game appearance last Tuesday at Coors Field.
Cardinals vs. Reds Betting Prediction
The Cardinals are 21-10 in their last 31 meetings with the Reds in Cincinnati and have won five of their last six games coming out of the break. They’re also 4-0 in their last four games as an underdog, are 5-1 in their last six games after allowing two runs or less in their previous game and have now won four of their last five divisional games. On the other side, the Reds have lost five of their last six, are 1-5 in their last six home games and are 1-5 in their last six home games when facing an opponent like the Cardinals that have a winning record.
