Cubs drop another
The Chicago Cubs have lost the first two games in this series following Friday’s 3-6 loss to the Reds. Chicago is now 42-31 overall and 21-17 on the road. The Cubs are averaging 4.81 runs per game this season while allowing 3.55 per contest.
Luke Farrell gets the start for the Cubs today. It will be his first start of the season after making 12 relief appearances. Farrell has a 2-2 record with a 3.63 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. He has 26 strikeouts and six walks over 17.1 innings of work.
Reds win fifth straight
The Reds have found something that has clicked, as they are now on a 5-game winning streak thanks to these two wins over the Cubs. The Reds are 30-45 overall and 15-23 at home. Cincinnati is putting up 4.36 runs per game this season while allowing 5.08 per contest.
Anthony DeSclafani starts for the Reds on Saturday. He has started three games this season, going 2-1 with a 4.60 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. He has pitched 15.2 innings over his three starts, racking up 15 strikeouts and four walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are just 2-5 in their last seven road games and 2-5 in their last seven against NL Central opponents.
Cincinnati
The Reds have won four of their last five game 3’s of a series, but they are just 17-37 in their last 54 against a winning team.
Prediction:
Farrell hasn’t seen a lot of mound time. His longest outing was five innings of relief against the Mets on June 2. Given how poor the Cubs have looked in this series, I don’t like them bouncing back today with a reliever getting the start. DeSclafani has improved with each start and I think he can help the Reds continue this win streak.
The Pick: Cincinnati Reds -105
