Rockies try to avoid sweep against Cubs
Jason Hammel was a sub-.500 starter for the Rockies. My, how times have changed.
Now a stalwart with the Cubs, the righty revisits his old team in today’s series finale at Coors Field. Online sports book BetDSI gives MLB-best Chicago odds of -164 to prevail, whereas Colorado is considered a +149 underdog. The over/under run total sits at 12.
From 2009-2011, Hammel went 27-30 with a 4.63 ERA in Denver. Subsequent stops in Baltimore and Oakland didn’t prove especially fruitful either. Nonetheless, he’s discovered new life in the Windy City. The 33-year-old boasts an impeccable resume since the All-Star break, too, going 6-0 with a 0.95 ERA in six outings.
Walt Weiss answers with Jorge De Rosa, whose largely distinguished career in the high altitude seems to be drawing to an ugly close. The lefty is 7-7 with a 5.29 ERA through 21 appearances in 2016. He was even banished to the bullpen at one point in May.

Last night, the Cubbies’ bats rallied to the aid of the unheralded Mike Montgomery. We anticipate that they’ll grant the veteran Hammel the same courtesy here. Sit back and watch as the visitors improve to 34-25 away from the Friendly Confines.
