Brewers not backing down from Cubbies
Evidently, twirling 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the defending National League champions just isn’t good enough for Jon Lester.
Chicago’s stalwart lefty, having identify a few problem spots during Monday’s gem vs. the Mets, shoots for perfection in this afternoon’s series finale with Milwaukee. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI categorize the Cubbies as 1.5-run favorites, while the Brewers are +136 underdogs. The over/under run total rests at eight.

Unbeknownst to the crowd at Wrigley Field several nights ago, Lester was battling some mechanical issues. He says they’ve been rectified in time for an important rubber match at Miller Park. The host squad downed Chicago in the middle game, 6-1, as John Lackey’s midseason malaise continued. Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Dexter Fowler also combined to go 2-for-12 at the plate.
Joe Maddon’s offensive mainstays will hope for superior results when Junior Guerra takes the hill shortly. The 31-year-old rookie keeps opening eyes, though, with a 6-2 record and 78 strikeouts across 88 1/3 frames. Back on May 19, Guerra fanned a whopping 11 in his lone previous meeting with the Cubs.

Chicago still boasts 18 victories in the past 26 encounters with the Brew Crew, but it needs a sterling effort from Lester here. Thankfully for the North Siders, the All-Star hurler holds a lifetime ERA of 2.22 in Milwaukee. Expect Rizzo and the other boys from the lumber yard to chip in, too.
