Mets eye second straight victory over Cubs
The Cubs thought they had moved beyond the foibles of last week. Thursday’s events at Citi Field suggested otherwise.
Blowing a 3-0 lead late in the proceedings, Chicago suffered a 4-3 setback vs. the Mets. The top team in the majors will try to regroup tonight, with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch in Flushing. Online sports book Bovada.lv remains positively torn on this one, with both teams getting odds of -110 to triumph as the morning began. The over/under run total rests at seven.

In the opener, Terry Collins’ gang displayed impressive resolve down the stretch, harassing the Cubbies’ bullpen following John Lackey’s departure. How will New York fare against Jason Hammel, though? The righty’s in the midst of a four-start winless streak, and he’s 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in five career meetings with the Mets.
As for the host squad, it sends Jacob deGrom to the hill. Shockingly, the 28-year-old flamethrower hasn’t prevailed since April 30. Over those 10 appearances, however, he boasts a 3.13 ERA. DeGrom took a no-decision in the Mets’ 1-0 weekend triumph at Atlanta.

While matters got a little nutty about 10 hours ago, we don’t quite as much tumult in the second contest between the 2015 NLCS participants. The Hammel-deGrom duel should result in a low-scoring affair whose outcomes hangs in the balance around closing time. Sounds vaguely familiar, right?
