Arrieta leads Cubs into battle with Mets
Having gone just 4-8 in their past 12 contests the Cubs couldn’t ask for a superior option to get them moving back in the right direction this evening.
Eleven-game winner Jake Arrieta strides to the hill at roughly 7:15 p.m. ET, with the goal of toppling the Mets at Citi Field. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI give the righty and his teammates odds of -185 to do exactly that. The hosts, meanwhile, represent +165 underdogs.
Terry Collins’ troops looked anything but inferior last night. New York cranked five home runs in a 10-2 triumph that was interrupted by three rain delays. On the heels of that discouraging news in relation to third baseman David Wright’s health, Flushing’s finest needed such a boost.
An offensive explosion isn’t likely to occur against Arrieta. In five career meetings with the Mets, the 2015 National League Cy Young Award victor holds a 2-1 record with a 1.82 ERA. He’s been virtually invincible on the road this season, too, going 8-0 with a 0.89 WHIP and 42 strikeouts away from Wrigley Field.

On the other side, Bartolo Colon’s in the midst of a solid little run himself. Despite a 1.80 ERA since May 23, however, we can’t fathom a scenario in which the veteran’s colleagues harm Arrieta. Chicago shall put itself in position to earn the split tomorrow.
