Cubs drop two of three at Giants
Chicago fell 5-4 in 13 innings Wednesday afternoon to drop two out of three in the series. Jason Heyward helped lead the Cubs offense by going 3-for-6 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Kris Bryant was 1-for-5 with a home run, two walks and two RBIs. Javier Baez contributed a solo home run in six at-bats. Addison Russell was 1-for-5 plus a walk. Victor Caratini was 2-for-6. James Norwood took the loss in relief as the seventh Chicago pitcher, giving up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk over 1 2/3 innings.
Padres unable to complete comeback
San Diego trailed 3-0 in the seventh inning before managing to trim it to 3-2, but were unable to get over the top as the game ended with that score. The Padres lost three of four in the series. Wil Myers was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the defeat. Austin Hedges went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Tyson Ross took the loss as he allowed two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 6 1/3 innings.
Tyler Chatwood (3-5, 5.01 ERA) will start today for the Cubs, while Clayton Richard (7-8, 4.50) gets the nod for the Padres.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 7-2 in their last nine Friday games. Chicago is 3-9 in its last 12 road games.
San Diego
The Padres are 7-19 in their last 26 games overall. San Diego is 3-8 in its last 11 Friday games.
Prediction:
Chatwood has been a huge disappointment, while Richard can occasionally frustrate an opponent. The total here is low because of the stadium, but sometimes you need to bet against pitchers no matter the venue. With Bryant back in the lineup, the Cubs lineup should start rolling. Take the over here as I expect more runs to be scored than what the projection says.
