Cubs held in check in series finale
Chicago lost its series finale at home to Milwaukee yesterday by a count of 5-1. Kris Bryant went 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in the lone run with a double. Tommy La Stella was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter and scored the run. Ben Zobrist was 1-for-4, while Addison Russell ended the contest 1-for-3. Kyle Hendricks suffered the loss as he allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk over five innings.
Nats down favored Phillies
Washington prevailed 5-1 at Philadelphia Wednesday as it scored three runs in the first inning off ace Aaron Nola and never looked back. Bryce Harper was 1-for-4 with a 2-run home run to help pace the offense. Anthony Rendon was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Juan Soto finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Ryan Zimmerman ended the game 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Stephen Strasburg earned the win as he gave up one earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings of work.
Mike Montgomery (4-5, 3.85 ERA) will start today for Chicago, while the Nationals turn to Joe Ross (0-0, 0.00).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 45-15 in their last 60 Thursday games. Chicago is 2-6 in Montgomery’s last eight starts.
Washington
The over is 5-1-2 in the last eight Nationals games on Thursdays. The over is 6-2 in the last eight Washington games overall.
Prediction:
Chicago had to travel further for this game and hasn’t fared well lately with Montgomery on the mound as he probably profiles better as a long reliever. Ross’ first start was wiped out early due to rain and he could be on a bit of a pitch count here, but look for him to throw some effective innings. I like Washington to get the job done today as underdogs.
