Boston deploys Buchholz vs. Sale’s White Sox
Robin Ventura’s White Sox didn’t exactly throttle the American League leader in ERA last night. They managed to outlast the vicious Red Sox, though, setting up a highly intriguing battle today.
Chris Sale targets his 12th victory of the season as visiting Chicago takes on Boston at 7:05 p.m. ET. Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv, however, don’t gravitate toward the mighty southpaw here. The host club represents a 1.5-run favorite.
Despite another strong turn by knuckleballer Steven Wright, the Red Sox failed to prevail about 12 hours ago. The White Sox plated a pair of runs in the 10th to effectively erase the sting of a weekend sweep at Cleveland. Now, Sale can secure a series victory in Beantown.
Interestingly, though, the perennial All-Star hasn’t defeated John Farrell’s squad as a starter. Sale’s counterpart, Clay Buchholz, just wants to find some traction after a miserable beginning to the campaign. The righty draws his first starting assignment since May 26, when the Rockies shellacked him for six runs and three homers in five innings.

Buchholz should take comfort in a telling stat: Chicago has scored a total of nine runs in the last four contests. The White Sox’s anemic attack, coupled with the success that most of Boston’s big sluggers tend to enjoy vs. Sale, renders us a part of the Fenway faithful this evening. Bank on the Red Sox to close that gap in the AL East.
