White Sox’ Shields loses no hitter in seventh vs. Twins
James Shields gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings on Sunday in a no decision against the Twins on Sunday. Shields reminded us of the Big Game James version we saw a few years ago, as he had a no-hitter going through the first six against the Twins. Unfortunately, the seventh inning reminded us of why that moniker no longer applies. He does lower his ERA in this one, but it still sits at a less than healthy 5.17 on the year. His next scheduled start is on Sunday against the Cubs in Wrigley Field.
Cubs’ Lester gives up two runs in no-decision vs. Cardinals
Jon Lester wound up with a no-decision against the Cardinals on Sunday night after allowing two runs on six hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work. Lester walked four and struck out four on the night. He served up a solo homer to Jedd Gyorko in the second and an RBI triple to Kolten Wong in the sixth. The veteran left-hander had to battle through a pair of rain delays in this one, and did a terrific job overall at limiting the damage despite the parade of baserunners against him. He’ll carry a 2.82 ERA and 1.33 WHIP into Saturday’s start against the White Sox.

Prediction:
These two teams played in a high-scoring game on Friday but I see the reverse today. The under is 17-6-4 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams at Wrigley Field and is 5-2-3 in the last 10 meetings overall. The under is also 5-2 in Lester’s last seven starts coming off five days of rest and is 4-1 in Shields’ last five starts overall.
