White Sox playing well
The White Sox are coming off a 7-3 win over the Twins on Wednesday for their sixth win in eight games. Chicago is now 48-78 overall and 23-38 on the road. The Sox are putting up 4.14 runs per game this year while allowing 5.33 per contest.
James Shields gets the start for Chicago this afternoon. He is 5-14 through 26 starts with a 4.39 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Shields has 127 strikeouts and 62 walks over 164.0 innings of work this year.
Tigers pounded by Cubs
The Tigers failed to win back-to-back games over the Cubs on Wednesday, suffering an 8-2 loss. Detroit is now 52-75 overall and 33-31 at home. The Tigers are scoring only 3.86 runs per game this year while allowing 4.68 per contest.
Matthew Boyd gets the start for the Tigers this afternoon. He is making his 24th start of the season today. Boyd has a 7-11 record with a 4.27 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. He has 121 strikeouts and 41 walks over 135.0 innings this year.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox have won six of their last seven road games, but they are just 3-10 in their last 13 meetings with the Tigers.
Detroit
The Tigers are 1-5 in their last six division games, but 6-2 in their last eight home games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Boyd has been alternating good and bad starts and he is coming off a shaky one where he allowed four runs to the Twins. He has been really strong at home as well, posting a 2.80 ERA. I think that should serve him well. While the White Sox have been playing well as of late, Shields hasn’t been good on the road all year. He is 1-7 in road starts with a 5.75 ERA. Look for the Tigers to find a way to a victory in this one.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers -120
