White Sox shoot to snap Tigers’ win streak
The Tigers have navigated a tremendously difficult stretch with tenacity and assuredness. And they’re about to be rewarded for as much.
Winners of seven in a row, Brad Ausmus’ troops resume a three-game set with the White Sox tonight. Online sports book Bovada.lv leans toward Comerica Park’s finest, while Chicago enters as a +120 underdog. The over/under run total rests at eight.

Not only does Detroit continue to vault up the American League Central standings, it could welcome back a pair of key contributors in a matter of hours. Veteran hurler Jordan Zimmermann, who missed the entirety of July because of a neck strain, finally appears ready to return. The same goes for power-hitting right fielder J.D. Martinez, felled by an elbow fracture in mid-June.
If Martinez suits up this evening, he’ll encounter one of the most intimidating pitchers in the sport. Chris Sale (14-4, 3.17 ERA) takes the rubber for the visitors, and he’s aiming to build on a quality showing vs. the Cubs. The lefty limited the NL Central leaders to two runs on six hits last week. Sale holds an 8-6 record with a 3.20 ERA in 26 career meetings with the Tigers.
Ausmus responds by deploying the increasingly formidable Michael Fulmer. Arguably the junior circuit’s foremost Rookie of the Year candidate, the Oklahoma native is 9-2 with a 2.50 ERA through 16 outings. There seems to be a major focus, however, on managing Fulmer’s workload.

With all due respect to the young righty, we can’t envision him toppling Sale here. Chicago’s in an unmistakable rut, yes, but the southpaw rarely disappoints when asked to snare a triumph. In short, the Tigers should plan on starting a new roll tomorrow.
