Choo earns award named for Feller
CLEVELAND, OH (AP) – Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has won the Bob Feller Man of the Year award given by Cleveland’s chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
The writers renamed their annual Man of the Year award for Feller, the 92-year-old Hall of Famer who was moved into a hospice earlier this week. He has been weakened by a four-month battle with leukemia compounded with pneumonia.
Choo led Cleveland with 22 home runs, 90 RBIs and 22 stolen bases, while playing solid defense. It is the second time he has won the award from the writers.
The BBWAA chapter also said Sunday that it has asked the Indians for permission to create a press-box shrine to Feller, who sat in the same third-row seat at nearly every game since Progressive Field opened in 1994.
