Indians coming off rest
The Indians had an off day on Thursday and they have been playing pretty well as of late. Despite losing a series at St. Louis, the Tribe have still won eight of their last 10. Cleveland is 44-35 on the season and 17-22 on the road. The Indians are putting up 4.95 runs per game this season while allowing 4.18 per contest.
Trevor Bauer gets the start for the Indians this evening. He is 7-5 through 16 starts this year and is carrying a 2.44 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. Bauer has pitched a total of 107.0 innings and has 140 strikeouts with 35 walks.
Athletics on win streak
The Athletics are coming off a four-game sweep of the Tigers in Detroit and they have won eight of their last 10 as well. Oakland is 44-38 overall and 20-20 at home. The Athletics are putting up 4.61 runs per game this year while allowing 4.45 per contest.
Paul Blackburn gets the start for the Athletics this evening. He has started just four games this year and is 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. Blackburn has pitched 17.1 innings and has 11 strikeouts with four walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians have won six of Bauer’s last eight starts and four of his last five starts in a series opener. The Tribe has also won seven of its last nine series openers.
Oakland
The Athletics are 7-2 in their last nine games following a win and 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games. They are also 40-15 in their last 55 against AL Central opponents.
Prediction:
Oakland was able to beat up on Detroit, but the Indians aren’t the Tigers. Cleveland has some great pitching and one of their best is on the mound tonight. Blackburn hasn’t looked good in his four outings this year and I don’t see him being able to keep up with Bauer. Cleveland should light up Blackburn and then ride its pitching to a win.
The Pick: Cleveland Indians -185
