Cubs, Rockies poised for slugfest?
Very few clubs can measure up to the Cubs’ offensive firepower. The Rockies, however, could well belong in that category.
Chicago and Colorado swing into action at 2:20 p.m. ET in the opener of an explosive three-game set. According to online sports book BetDSI, Joe Maddon’s team is a 1.5-run favorite to improve to 9-1. The over/under total rests at 7.5 runs.
Virtually everybody acknowledges the Cubs’ prowess with the lumber, and a high-profile cast hasn’t disappointed. Chicago boasts an MLB-best .300 average, .947 OPS and 20 homers. Two players, Dexter Fowler and Miguel Montero, hover at or above the .320 mark.
On the other side, the Rockies continue riding a rookie sensation to lofty heights. Shortstop Trevor Story (seven HRs) temporarily switched from dingers to triples two nights ago, recording a pair of two-baggers in a 10-6 victory over NL West rival San Francisco. Colorado actually took two of three from the Giants, pounding out 23 runs and 38 hits in the process.

By now, though, we fully understand manager Walt Weiss’ main conundrum: pitching. His staff permits 12.1 hits per game. The Rockies have also surrendered at least five runs in all but two contests. With a weekend at Wrigley Field looming, it’s just an awful recipe.
Chicago, which sends Kyle Hendricks (1-0, 2.70 ERA) to the hill, will reach double-digit wins in a matter of hours. Heck, the possibility of 10-spot in this particular tilt shouldn’t be discounted. Roll with the host squad to make life miserable for Chad Bettis and company.
