Colorado Rockies Fantasy Spin
Rockies RHP prospect Peter Lambert will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start on Thursday against the Cubs. This will give Jon Gray an extra day off, and the right-hander has been dealing with a “hot spot” in his finger. Lambert is one of the top prospects in the system, and while he does have a 5.07 ERA, he also has a 51/16 K/BB ratio in his time with the Isotopes in an extremely difficult park — and league — to pitch in. This is likely a one-off, but if Lambert pitches well, he could earn some more starts down the stretch.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Cubs have reached agreement with free agent reliever Craig Kimbrel on a three-year, $43 million contract. Rosenthal reported earlier on Wednesday that the Cubs were “pushing hard” to acquire Kimbrel. It appears they pushed hard enough, and MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports the deal is a three-year, $43 million pact, with Jeff Passan of ESPN adding that the reliever also has a fourth year possible with a vesting/club option for the 2022 season that contain a $1 million buyout. He’ll earn $10 million in 2019, and $16 million over the next two seasons with the potential of $16 more in 2022. Kimbrel has been one of the best closers in baseball over the last decade, and while his stuff isn’t quite what it was just a few seasons ago, he still misses bats with the best of them. The Cubs will likely need the 31-year-old to spend a couple of weeks making minor league appearances before he’s ready, but he should be the closer in Chicago for much of the summer.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are just 2-7 in their last nine road games.
Chicago
The Cubs have lost four of Quintana’s last five starts.
Prediction:
While the Cubs have struggled to win games with Quintana on the mound recently, they’re also 21-8 in his last 29 starts at home. They’re 14-5 in his last 19 games when he starts the third game of a series and are a perfect 5-0 in his last five starts versus the National League west.
Tuesday MLB Prediction: Chicago Cubs -135
