Cubs still favored, but Dodgers creeping
As baseball draws closer to spring training, the Cubs remain the favorites to win the 2016 World Series but the Dodgers and Mets are drawing closer in terms of the odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cubs are currently 9/2 favorites to win this season’s Fall Classic. A little less than a month ago Chicago was 7/1, so the club’s odds have improved over the last few weeks. But the teams around the Cubs have seen their odds change significantly.
For example, the Giants and Red Sox were both 10/1, respectively, to win the World Series last month. They were the teams with the next best odds behind the Cubs to win the Fall Classic. Now the teams with the next best odds are the Dodgers and Mets, who are 12/1, respectively.
How much have the Red Sox and Giants’ odds fallen? Not terribly much, as they’ve gone from 10/1 to 14/1. But there’s been no reason why Boston and San Francisco’s odds have dropped considering there hasn’t been much going on in baseball of late. Perhaps oddsmakers adjusted with more bettors hammering the Dodgers and Mets at the betting window.
