Both clubs are coming off very disappointing series, as Chicago dropped 2 of 3 in Colorado and Arizona lost 3 of 4 to the Mets. As it sits right now, the Cubs and D-Backs hold the final two wild card spots in the NL by a very narrow margin.
The Cubs will send their ace Justin Steele to the mound to face Arizona to begin this series. Steele has had an incredible year in Chicago posting a 16-3 record with a 2.49 ERA. He is coming off a solid start in Chicago against the Diamondbacks where he allowed one run over seven innings. Steele left with a no-decision in this one, as the Cubs’ offensive did not give Steele much run support.
The Diamondbacks will throw rookie, Brandon Pfaadt. For Pfaadt his numbers have not been good for Arizona, the stuff seems to be there as he has had a solid year in Triple-A posing a 6-2 record, but it has just not equated to success quite yet at the major league level.
