According to oddsmakers, the Indians are favored at home tonight, as they are getting odds of -200 to win. The Tigers are listed with a money line of +170 to prevail, while the over/under total has been set at 9.5 runs. The public betting for this game currently has 75 percent going on Cleveland at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Tigers can’t get to .500
The Detroit Tigers were on a 5-game win streak to get to 1 game within .500, but suffered a pair of losses to the Reds entering the weekend. Detroit is now 36-39 overall and 13-22 on the road. The Tigers are averaging 4.17 runs per game at the plate while allowing 4.56 per contest on the mound.
Mike Fiers gets the start for the Tigers this evening. He has started 13 games this season and has a 5-3 record with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. Fiers has pitched a total of 72.2 innings this season and has 54 strikeouts and 15 walks.
Indians pulling away
The Indians have won four straight coming into tonight, all against AL Central opponents. They now have a 5-game lead on the Tigers in the division race. Cleveland is now 40-33 overall and 24-13 at home. The Tribe are scoring 4.90 runs per game while allowing 4.26 per contest.
Shane Bieber gets the start for the Indians this evening. He has started just two games this year, posting a 1-0 record with a 3.97 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. Bieber has 13 strikeouts with just two walks through two starts against the Twins.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers have won five straight AL Central games and they also have won Fiers’ last four starts overall and his last four starts in the division.
Cleveland
The Indians have won 43 of their last 60 home games and six of their last seven series openers.
Prediction:
Fiers already has led the Tigers to a pair of wins over the Indians. He had a 4-2 win at home on June 9 and a 6-3 win at home on May 14. Cleveland has struggled against him, producing just two runs over 13 innings of work for Fiers. Bieber has looked good so far, but its just been against the Twins. While the Tigers aren’t great at the plate either, I think they can do enough to help Fiers pull off the upset.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +170
