Tigers edged again
Detroit suffered a second consecutive 1-run loss on Friday, losing to the Indians 7-6. Detroit has now lost six of its last seven games. The Tigers are 26-45 overall, 15-21 on the road and 35-30 with the under. Detroit has Spencer Turnbull taking the mound today. He is 3-6 on the season with a 3.27 ERA.
The Tigers actually got some solid hitting on Friday, racking up 12 hits. However, it wasn’t enough for a win. Matthew Boyd pitched six innings and gave up five earned runs with six strikeouts. Joe Jimenez got the loss, as he gave up two runs while recording just one out in the eighth. He is 2-5 on the year. Christin Stewart led Detroit at the plate with three hits and two RBI. He and Brandon Dixon both homered for the Tigers. Dixon has nine home runs on the season with 30 RBI.
Indians heating up
Cleveland has won five of its last seven games following Friday’s victory over the Tigers. The Tribe are 40-35 on the season, 21-17 at home and 42-31 with the under. Cleveland has Aaron Civale getting the start today. He is making his MLB debut for Cleveland.
Trevor Bauer struggled in his start, giving up five runs over four innings on 10 hits. However, he didn’t take the loss thanks to the bullpen, which pitched five strong innings, allowing just one run. Adam Cimber got the win in relief while Brad Hand earned his 21st save. Carlos Santana had two hits with two RBI, including his 16th home run of the season. He was one of five batters with multiple hits for Cleveland in the win.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 1-6 in Turnbull’s last seven starts and they have lost five straight division games.
Cleveland
The Indians have won four straight division games and six of their last eight games on grass.
Prediction:
The Indians have a rookie taking the mound and we don’t know what to expect of him. The Tigers have Turnbull on the mound, who has been their best starter, but he is coming off a 6-run, 5-inning effort against the Tribe last week. Turnbull doesn’t get much run support and his bullpen is a dumpster fire. I’m not sure Cleveland’s starter will do much, but the Tribe have a capable bullpen that can overcome any struggles he may have.
MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians -185
