Tigers falter late at Rays
Detroit allowed two runs in the eighth inning and two more in the bottom of the ninth Sunday afternoon to blow a three-run lead in a 5-4 loss at Tampa Bay. Joe Jimenez took the loss in relief as he allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with no strikeouts and one walk over one-third of an inning. Harold Castro helped pace the Tigers offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Victor Reyes went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Gordon Beckham was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Edwin Jackson draws the start tonight as he enters with a 3-5 record, 8.62 ERA and 1.84 WHIP with 27 strikeouts over 39 2/3 innings.
Astros snap five-game skid
Houston claimed a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Oakland to improve to 79-46 overall and 36-31 on the road. Zack Greinke picked up his 200th career win on the mound as he gave up one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. Roberto Osuna allowed one hit with no strikeouts or walks in a scoreless inning of work to record the save. Alex Bregman led the offense as he was a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk and three RBIs. Michael Brantley went 2-for-4 plus a walk. Yuli Gurriel ended the game 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Wade Miley gets the start tonight for the Astros as he enters with an 11-4 record, 3.11 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 117 strikeouts over 141 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 15-36 in their last 51 road games. Detroit is 9-23 in its last 32 Monday games.
Houston
The Astros are 8-2 in the last 10 Miley home starts.
Prediction:
Detroit played very well at Tampa Bay and Jackson has actually pitched way better in his two starts with the Tigers than he had previously this season, but I still can’t endorse the huge dogs here. Miley is the type of pitcher (there are a lot of them) who should give Detroit’s hitters fits and he’ll be backed by an offense that isn’t going to be fooled much by Jackson or an array of mediocre relievers. Go with Houston to win by multiple runs.
