Tigers unable to rally back
Detroit gave up four runs in the bottom of the first after initially taking a 1-0 lead Monday night at Houston and was unable to come back all the way in a 5-4 defeat. Travis Demeritte led the Tigers offense as he finished 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Ronny Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Brandon Dixon ended the game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Edwin Jackson took the loss as he allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings, striking out six and walking four. Spencer Turnbull will start today for Detroit as he enters with a 3-11 record, 3.75 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 106 strikeouts over 112 2/3 innings of work.
Four-run first lifts Astros
Houston had a big first inning Monday night at home versus Detroit and ultimately held on for a 5-4 win. Yuli Gurriel helped pace the Astros offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Yordan Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jose Altuve was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored off the bench as he replaced shortstop Carlos Correa, who left the game after the first inning with a back ailment. Wade Miley picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings pitched. Roberto Osuna notched the save as he allowed one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in a scoreless inning of work. Aaron Sanchez takes the mound tonight for Houston as he comes in with a 5-14 record, 5.79 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with 114 strikeouts over 129 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 17-35 in their last 52 Tuesday games. Detroit is 3-13 in the last 16 Turnbull starts.
Houston
The Astros are 44-15 in their last 59 home games. Houston is 2-5 in its last seven games overall.
Prediction:
Detroit has played competitive baseball in a three-game series at Tampa Bay and last night’s opener at Houston, but only has one win to show for it. It’s almost as if the Tigers are due to be trounced. While the Astros haven’t played that well lately and Correa might be out tonight, I don’t think it matters. Sanchez has been solid in two of his three Astros starts and I like him to bounce back tonight. Go with the Astros on the runline and don’t overthink it.
