According to oddsmakers, the Royals are the slight favorite today. Kansas City is getting odds of -115 to win, while the Tigers are listed with a money line of +105 to prevail. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 9.5 runs. The public betting currently has 74% going on Detroit on the road. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Tigers trying to surge
The Tigers have won back-to-back 1-run games over the Rays at home to win their third in five games. The Tigers are now 13-16 overall with a 5-8 record on the road. Detroit is putting up 4.50 runs per game on the season, but allowing 4.61 per game.
Mike Fiers gets his fifth start for the Tigers on Thursday. He is 2-2 through the four starts with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Fiers has pitched 23 innings and has 15 strikeouts with four walks.
Royals not good at home
The Royals really haven’t been good at all anywhere, but they are just 3-12 at home. They still are coming off a competitive series at Boston where they lost two of three, but were in all three games. KC is now 8-22 overall. The Royals are scoring just 3.53 runs per game this year while allowing 5.70 per contest.
Eric Skoglund gets the start today for KC. He is 1-2 through four starts this year and has a 6.23 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP. Skoglund has pitched a total of 21.2 innings and has 19 strikeouts with six walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
Detroit and KC have split six meetings this season. The Tigers are just 2-6 in their last eight against a left-handed starts and 11-27 in their last 38 road games.
Kansas City
The Royals are 3-13 in their last 16 home games and have lost their last four Thursday games. They are also 2-6 in Skoglund’s last eight starts.
Prediction:
The Tigers have won lately, but still are struggling to score. Both wins against Tampa saw them score three runs or less. Detroit doesn’t have reliable pitching either, but their hitting and pitching is still better than KC. The Royals just don’t have much to offer and I trust the Tigers to win this game more times than not.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +105
