Tigers pitching struggles
The Tigers had a bullpen letdown on Friday hand them a second straight loss to the Royals, 4-2. Detroit is now 13-18 overall with a 5-10 record on the road. Detroit is putting up 4.50 runs per game on the season, but allowing 4.70 per game.
Jordan Zimmerman gets his seventh start of the season for the Tigers. He is 1-0 through the first six starts with a 5.81 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He has pitched 26.1 innings and has 27 strikeouts with six walks.
Royals seek three straight
The Royals have managed to win the first two games in this series, rallying on Friday for a 4-2 victory. KC is now 10-22 overall and 5-12 at home as it looks to earn its first three-game win streak of the season. The Royals are scoring just 3.74 runs per game for the season while allowing 5.71 per contest.
Jason Hammel gets the start for the Royals today. KC is 0-6 in his six starts this year with Hammel holding an 0-3 record. He has a 4.91 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP while racking up 19 strikeouts and 12 walks over 36.2 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 11-29 in their last 40 road games and they are 6-13 in Zimmerman’s last 19 road starts. They also are 1-8 in his last nine starts against a team with a losing record.
Kansas City
The Royals are just 11-27 in Hammel’s last 38 starts and 3-7 in his last 10 home starts. They also have lost 10 of their last 12 home games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Royals have yet to win with Hammel on the mound, but I think that will change today. KC has a little momentum going for a change and the Tigers aren’t a team you can really expect a lot of road wins from. Zimmerman has worse numbers than Hammel and he has a bullpen behind that he can’t count on.
The Pick: Kansas City Royals -140
