Tigers get another upset
After pulling off the biggest upset in MLB history earlier in the week, the Tigers picked up another big upset on Friday in a 9-6 win over the Twins. Detroit is 39-87 on the season, 22-44 on the road and 61-55 with the under. The Tigers have Edwin Jackson on the mound today. He is 3-6 on the year with an 8.46 ERA.
Detroit had a surprising offensive output on Friday, putting up 17 hits and nine runs despite being one of the worst hitting teams in the league. Ronny Rodriguez had a grand slam in the win and finished with three hits and two runs while Harold Castro had three hits and two RBI. Drew VerHagen got his fourth win on the mound. He threw six innings and struck out 11 while allowing three runs.
Twins in a funk
Minnesota is in a slight funk, as the Twins have lost three of their last four games to the White Sox and the Twins. Minnesota is 77-51 on the season, 37-29 at home and 65-55 with the over. The Twins have Kyle Gibson getting the start tonight. He is 11-6 on the season with a 4.40 ERA.
Jose Berrios struggled in the start on Friday. He fell to 10-7 on the year after allowing five runs over 5.1 innings. At the plate, Minnesota managed four home runs, as both Miguel Sano and Jake Cave each homered twice. Sano finished with three RBI while Cave had two.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 6-20 in their last 26 division games and 16-39 in their last 55 road games.
Minnesota
The Twins are 36-16 in their last 52 games following a loss and 13-6 in their last 19 Game 2’s of a series.
Prediction:
The Tigers had an offensive outburst on Friday that we have seen from them few times this year. They actually beat up Gibson earlier this year as well, but I don’t see this lineup being able to repeat Friday. They have the season stats they do for a reason. Jackson has been competitive on the mound in his three starts for Detroit, but he has journeyed around the league for a reason. He doesn’t have the consistency needed to win.
MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins -1.5 (-155)
