Three Tigers pitchers combine on shutout
Detroit picked up a 2-0 road victory Friday night at Tampa Bay to improve to 37-82 overall and 20-39 on the road. Drew VerHagen picked up the win in relief as he threw five shutout innings with three hits allowed, three strikeouts and one walk. Joe Jimenez picked up the save as he gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in one scoreless frame. Travis Demeritte helped lead the Tigers offense as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Jordy Mercer was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Victor Reyes, Niko Goodrum and Brandon Dixon were all 1-for-4 with a double. Jordan Zimmermann draws the start today as he enters with a 1-8 record, 7.13 ERA and 1.60 WHIP with 52 strikeouts over 72 innings pitched.
Rays held to five hits
Tampa Bay lost by a count of 2-0 at home Friday night against Detroit to drop to 71-52 overall and 31-29 at home. Matt Duffy helped lead the Rays offense as he finished 3-for-4. Eric Sogard went 1-for-3 off the bench with a double. Travis d’Arnaud ended the game 1-for-4. Charlie Morton was the tough-luck losing pitcher as he gave up one unearned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Ryan Yarbrough will get the start this evening as he comes in with an 11-3 record, 3.56 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with 78 strikeouts over 98 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 7-21 in their last 28 Saturday games. Detroit is 8-21 in the last 29 Zimmermann starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall. Tampa Bay is 7-3 in the last 10 Yarbrough starts.
Prediction:
Tampa Bay had a poor night last night against hittable pitchers, but I highly doubt it happens again as the Tigers send Zimmermann to the mound today. He has been awful in basically every category again this season and Yarbrough plus the bullpen should get plenty of run support. I’m looking at the runline bet here.
