Red Sox vs. Blue Jays Pick
Are the Boston Red Sox going to defeat the host Toronto Blue Jays for a third day in a row? First pitch is at 7:07PM EST.
Oddsmakers at Bovada.lv have set the Red Sox at -110 on the moneyline and the Blue Jays are also -110. The over-under is 9.
The Red Sox will put Rick Porcello (8-15, 4.57) on the mound, while the Blue Jays are going with J.A. Happ (6-10, 4.10). Porcello, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, is having a down season and is coming off a horrendous start. He allowed 11 runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking one in a 16-3 home loss to the Orioles. He has a 1.39 WHIP with 153 strikeouts in 169 1/3 innings. Happ has 1.36 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 107 2/3 innings. He has given up 10 earned runs total over 11 innings in his last two starts, striking out 15.
Boston is 75-57 with a 35-32 road record, while Toronto is 61-71 and 35-33 at home. The Red Sox have won eight of the last 10 meetings, while the total has gone under six times.
Tuesday’s game was won by the Red Sox as Chris Sale threw seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out 11. Craig Kimbrel picked up his 31st save. Rajai Davis went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Eduardo Nunez was 2-for-3 with a walk plus a double and an RBI. Andrew Benintendi was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hanley Ramirez added a solo home run. Brett Anderson gave up one earned run over 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Kendry Morales had two hits for the Blue Jays.
Neither pitcher is in good form right now, but it seems like Porcello has been pitching with a lot of bad luck this year. Of course, last year he pitched with a tremendous amount of luck and received a lot of run support. He’s somewhere in the middle. Boston is the better team and seems to have sorted out its issue after a four-game rough stretch.
