L.A. designates Wilson for assignment

LOS ANGELES, CA (The Spread) – The Dodgers continue to shake up their roster, this time jettisoning reliever Brian Wilson.

On Tuesday the Dodgers designated Wilson for assignment in a move that cleared a spot for the newly-signed Brandon McCarthy to the 40-man roster. Wilson exercised his $9.5 million player option fro 2015 back in November but the club was clearly intent on eating his salary in order to move on from the bearded one. Wilson, 32, is coming off a rough season in which he posted a 4.66 ERA and a 54/29 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings this season.

In related news, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are also talking to teams about a trade involving Brandon League. Just like with Wilson, L.A. is reportedly willing to eat some of League’s $7.5 million salary for next season in order to move him. Unlike Wilson, League is coming off a solid season in which he posted a 2.57 ERA over 63 appearances for the Dodgers.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Dodgers are currently favored to win the 2015 World Series at 15/2. The team with the next best odds are the Red Sox at 9/1 while the Nationals are 10/1 and the Cubs, Tigers and Angels are all 12/1, respectively.
