Craig Kimbrel recorded his 19th save of the season after tossing a scoreless inning with a walk, a hit allowed, a hit-by-pitch and a strikeout in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Giants. Another weird performance from Kimbrel, who seemed determined to torpedo the win after the Dodgers handed him a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning. After walking Luis González with one out, the veteran reliever made a mess out of things, surrendering a Joey Bart single before plunking LaMonte Wade Jr. to load the bases. He then escaped his own trap, inducing a Mike Yastrzemski fly out (which did not score a run) and ending the game by striking out Austin Slater. Kimbrel owns a 4.14 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 53/16 K/BB ratio in 39 appearances this season. With the successful (?) ninth inning on Wednesday, Kimbrel improved to 19-of-22 in save chances.

Joey Bart went 3-for-4 in Wednesday’s loss to the Dodgers. Bart collected two hits — including a two-run homer — in Tuesday’s loss to the Dodgers. He was at it again in slightly less emphatic fashion during Wednesday’s defeat. The backstop managed to climb back over the Mendoza line with his three knocks and is now slashing .205/.299/.378 with eight homers and 16 RBI across 156 at-bats this season.

On the other side, the Giants are just 2-8 in their last 10 games following a loss, are 1-10 in their last 11 games versus National League West opponents and are winless in their last seven games when facing an opponent with a winning percentage above .600.
