Mets keeping Cespedes
The New York Mets avoided losing a key player to their playoff push last season, agreeing to a new 3-year deal with Yoenis Cespedes, according to ESPN.
The news broke on Friday night that Cespedes, a 30-year-old left fielder, has reached a 3-year, $75 million deal with New York, where he spend the second half of last season. The new deal will put Cespedes on par with Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Hamilton for highest average pay for an outfielder.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Mets are now listed at 18/1 to win the World Series in 2016. The Cubs remain the favorite with 4/1 odds while the Giants come in at 6/1.
Cespedes appeared in 57 games for the Mets last season following a trade from the Detroit Tigers. In those 57 games, he had 17 home runs with 44 RBI while hitting .287 at the plate. For all of 2015, Cespedes had 35 home runs with 105 RBI while hitting .291. In his four years as a major leaguer, Cespedes has 106 home runs with 367 RBI while hitting .271. He also has 37 stolen bases, 124 doubles and 21 triples.
