Sunday Night Baseball Free Pick
(The Spread) – The Sunday Night Baseball matchup is a good one tonight, as the defending champion Giants host the Reds at 8:05PM ET.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have installed the Giants as –110 money line favorites against the visiting Reds, who are +104 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s game is currently sitting at 7 runs.
The pitching matchup will feature two sometimes dazzling, sometimes-erratic starters in Edinson Volquez and Jonathan Sanchez. Volquez is 4-2 on the year but he comes into this game with a 5.74 ERA, while Sanchez is 4-4 with a 3.51 ERA but in his last two starts he hasn’t made it past the fifth inning.
Of the 3,500-plus wagers on tonight’s game, 58% of the MLB betting public favors the Giants at –110. This is a little surprising considering the Reds just manhandled Tim Lincecum on Saturday.
MLB Free Picks: Take Cincinnati. Despite their record, the Giants are a bit of a mess right now. They just lost second baseman Freddy Sanchez to a shoulder injury on Friday night and came out incredibly flat yesterday in a 10-2 loss. Sanchez has managed to keep most opponents from scoring but he’s always one bad inning away from imploding. And against the Reds’ power lineup, that’s not a good thing heading into tonight’s action. Volquez hasn’t been great this year but the Giants’ offense remains putrid. The Giants are just 1-5 in their last six home games versus a team with a winning record and according to latest MLB trends, they’re 3-7 in their last 10 home games versus a right-handed starter. Again, take the value in the Reds.
