Who will replace Don Mattingly in L.A.?
Will Gabe Kapler replace Don Mattingly as the next manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers? The odds suggest he has the best chance of any candidate rumored for the position.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Kapler is a 5/4 favorite to become the next manager of the Dodgers. Dave Martinez has the next best odds at 5/2 while Bud Black is 6/1 and both Tim Wallach and Ron Roenicke are 7/1, respectively. (See below for a complete list of odds.)
On October 23, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported that “numerous people in industry” told him that they would be surprised “if anyone but Gabe Kapler” is the next Dodgers manager. Rosenthal added that the Dodgers are “expected to conduct a thorough process” but the “close relationship between (president Andrew) Frideman and Kapler ultimately could be paramount.”
Kapler is currently the Dogers’ director of player development and does have some managerial experience, albeit in the Red Sox’ minor league system. ESPN’s Buster Olney also tweeted last week that Kapler “is a serious frontrunner” for the Dodgers job, and when there’s smoke, there’s fire.
