Correa walks it off
With one swing of the bat by Correa in the bottom of the 11th inning, Houston prevailed 3-2 as his game-ending home run evened the series against New York at a game apiece. Correa ended the game 2-for-5 with the homer, a double and two RBIs. George Springer also contributed heavily as he went 1-for-4 with a solo home run plus a walk. Jose Altuve was 2-for-4 with a walk. Josh James recorded the win in relief as he struck out the only batter he faced. Gerrit Cole draws the start tonight for the Astros as he is coming a Game 5 6-1 win in the ALDS over Tampa Bay at home where he allowed one earned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks over eight innings.
Judge homers in defeat
New York fell by a score of 3-2 in Game 2 of the ALCS Sunday night at Houston. J.A. Happ took the loss in relief as he surrendered one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and no walks over two-thirds of an inning. Aaron Judge paced the Yankees offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. D.J. LeMahieu ended the game 1-for-4 with a walk plus a run scored. Brett Gardner was 2-for-5. Luis Severino gets the start tonight after throwing four shutout innings in Game 3 of the ALDS at Minnesota with four hits allowed, four strikeouts and two walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 7-0 in the last seven Cole road starts. Houston is 8-3 in its last 11 road games.
New York
The Yankees are 22-4 in the last 26 Severino home starts. New York is 36-16 in its last 52 game following a loss.
Prediction:
New York can typically count on Severino when he’s healthy, but my issue here is his longevity. While you can count on Cole pitching seven or eighth innings, Severino has been on pitch counts since returning from injury and I wouldn’t expect him to throw more than 90 pitches tonight. That could very easily get him through five innings and maybe six if he is in a good groove, but it still makes for more relievers the Yankees will have to use. While their bullpen was excellent in Game 2, it’s tough to expect them to be lights out all the time for an extended period. And on the flip side, you of course have Cole who is the most dominant pitcher in baseball. I’ll take him.
