Updated Cubs’ World Series Odds
How much did the Chicago Cubs’ World Series odds improve with the addition of Jose Quintana?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Cubs are now 9/1 to win the 2017 World Series following the trade acquisition of Quintana on Thursday. Their odds were 10/1 to win before the trade, so their chances of winning haven’t improved that much in the eyes of oddsmakers.

It’s rather surprising that Chicago’s odds didn’t significantly improve following the acquisition of Quintana. He is just one of six pitchers who have thrown at least 200 innings each of the past four years and owns a career ERA of 3.51. He owned a 5.60 ERA at the end of May, but he has been outstanding since June 1. Quintana immediately upgrades a rotation that struggled in the first half.
The Cubs paid a premium to acquire Quintana from their cross-town rivals. For their ace, the White Sox landed top prospects Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease, as well as fellow prospects Matt Rose and Bryant Flete. The Sox will likely struggle for the next year or two, but their farm system is absolutely stacked for the future.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, have the best odds to win the 2017 World Series heading into the second half. They’re 18/5 to win this year’s Fall Classic, followed by the Astros at 9/2. The Red Sox are 7/1, followed by the Indians at 7/1 and the Nationals at 8/1.
