Royals take opener
Kansas City has been picking up some momentum in the last nine days, winning six of their last eight thanks to a 5-4 win over the Braves on Tuesday night to open this series. The Royals are 38-64 overall, 16-35 on the road and 50-46 with the over. KC has Brad Keller getting the start this evening. He is 6-9 on the season with a 4.18 ERA.
The Royals put up three runs in the eighth to take control of Tuesday’s win over the Braves. Alex Gordon had the big night at the plate, picking up three hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Lucas Duda, Jorge Soler and Humberto Artega also drove in runs. Danny Duffy recorded 11 strikeouts over six innings on the mound in the start, but it was Tim Hill that got the win in relief. Ian Kennedy got his 18th save of the year despite giving up a run in the ninth.
Braves on a slide
Atlanta is on a bit of a dip right now, as the Braves have lost five of their last seven after the loss to Kansas City last night. Atlanta is now 60-42 on the season, 30-22 at home and 50-47 with the over. The Braves have Julio Teheran on the mound this evening. He is 5-6 on the season with a 3.61 ERA.
Dallas Keuchel didn’t pitch too bad on Tuesday, allowing two runs over six innings with 12 strikeouts. He didn’t take a decision as Anthony Swarzak took the loss by giving up three runs in the eighth. Josh Donaldson had two hits and two RBI to lead the Braves while Freddie Freeman had two hits with a RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Kansas City
The Royals are 6-1 in their last seven after scoring five runs or more in their previous game, but 8-23 in their last 31 following a win.
Atlanta
The Braves are 16-7 in their last 23 home games and 10-3 in their last 13 games following a loss.
Prediction:
The Royals haven’t looked like one of the worst teams in baseball over the last week and they now hand the ball to Keller, who has led them to wins in his last four starts. He has given up just four earned runs in his last 20 innings on the mound. Teheran has gotten wins for Atlanta this year, as the Braves have won eight of his last 10 starts. However, deep starts haven’t been his thing and walks have been a problem in the past. Walks will not be good against KC, a team that is very aggressive on the bases. I think the Royals can find a way to get another upset today by taking advantage of those added opportunities.
MLB Prediction: Kansas City Royals +160
