Will Dodgers dominate opener against Angels?
Kenta Maeda’s initial tear through the majors has subsided. Thankfully for the Los Angeles rookie, his foe tonight continues to experience nothing but trouble.
In the latest installment of the Freeway Series, the Dodgers and Angels kick off a three-game set at 10:10 p.m. ET. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI paint the NL West representatives as pretty overwhelming favorites. The Halos, conversely, enter Chavez Ravine as +170 underdogs.
Dave Roberts’ club just captured two of three from St. Louis, largely because of stellar pitching. Now it’s up to Maeda (3-2, 2.30 ERA) to sustain the momentum generated by Ross Stripling, Scott Kazmir and Alex Wood. The Japanese import is in the midst of a rough stretch, though, going 0-2 with a 5.09 ERA since April 28. His most recent turn encompassed only five innings, during which he surrendered four runs and six hits to the Mets.
Matt Shoemaker would actually treasure those numbers at the moment. Mike Scioscia’s starter for the evening holds a 9.12 ERA with a .336 OBA. The righty’s ventured beyond the fourth inning on one occasion, and he dropped his lone career assignment vs. the Dodgers (20-18) in 2014.

Rather remarkably, the Angels (16-21) roused their dormant offense to sweep Seattle over the weekend. Barring a gargantuan showing from Mike Trout in several hours, however, expect them to keep scuffling on the road. Pay special attention to the Dodgers’ Corey Seager tonight. Having homered four times in the past five contests, the shortstop could well be the catalyst for another win by the Boys in Blue.
